The World is Watching
The World Is Watching…
People all over the world were watching in excitement as athletes from around the globe competed in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Whether they were on the edge of their seats for their countries first gold metal or standing in solidarity with an Olympian who struggled, The World was Watching! The Tokyo games certainly rose to the occasion as the world celebrated unity, diversification, strength, hope, support, happiness, and literally gave a helping hand to fellow athletes.
The Diversity Committee saw this as a wonderful opportunity to bring all of the branches of the Creators Society together to unify and celebrate our like mindfulness, and how our different cultures actually unite us.
We asked the leaders from each Branch, the following question:
How did you feel represented in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics?
What we set out to do was create a multimedia piece of artwork using parts of the answers and unifying this with animation. This was to show The Creators Society’s diversity and unification throughout the branches through our connection with an event celebrated worldwide.
We posed this specific question, because we wanted a human response with an emotional connection. We wanted to show, celebrate, and recognize inclusivity on a larger life scale.
Many thanks to all the members who shared their responses with us; we truly appreciated you and your help in creating this piece of multi-media art. For your reading and reflection, below are the full answers that were given to us.
“I will say I think it was a hugely significant moment when Simone Biles stepped away to address her mental health issues. Having a superstar like her openly confront the issue is a big deal, and I hope it gives others who feel similar pressure the encouragement to reassess their life situation and make necessary changes so that they are happier and healthier.”
~ Tyler Sandifer - Production Branch Chief
“As the Jonas Brothers sang during the closing ceremony, "We're gonna wanna remember this," the #2021TokyoOlympics have shown us our real world full of human beings as diverse, equal and emotional. We needed this positive time in the US; away from the misinformation and daily politics separating us from our true selves. I will remember the pure joy, competitive energy, high highs and low lows that are all mixed in the human condition!”
~ Katherine Curriden - Voice Actors Branch Member / Communications Committee Chair
"I felt represented by the athletes' work only being seen as the final result. There's so much that goes un-televised and unnoticed by an audience, yet we're always working to make ourselves and our work better."
~ Greg Scagmato - Editorial & Sound Branch Chief
"I'm so proud of Simone Biles and standing up for mental health and hers specifically. SafeSport was adopted by many sports including the one I taught for many years (US Figure Skating.) SafeSport was designed to help develop the whole athlete and to help eliminate abuse and keep athletes from injuring themselves. Abuse still occurs. I want to relate this to speaking up in the workforce, let's stand up for our creative colleagues. We need to be united in this. Will you join me?"
~ Melissa Peterson -Development Branch Chief
"I felt represented when Neeraj Chopra won the first gold medal for India. For a country recovering from the recent surge in Covid deaths this brings us much hope and positivity!"
~ Shyam Kannapurakkaran - Emerging Technology Branch Chief
The Diversity Committee would like to continue bringing everyone together to celebrate more events, like the Olympics or something more specific to heritage and culture. If there is something that speaks to you, please do not hesitate in reaching out. We look forward to hearing your responses… After all, the world is watching.
Stay safe, Stay well, Stay happy.
All the best,
~ Alex Spencer - Diversity Committee member / Voice Actors Branch Member / Events Committee Chair
